Are we still the good guys? That is the single most important question Americans can ask their leaders in the 21st Century.
The reason why this line of inquiry matters is that, by all accounts, there is a just Deity who rules over this Universe, whose righteous judgment rewards piety as much as it punishes iniquity. The good guys do not lose forever, nor do the bad guys win in the end.
So if we truly are modernity's antagonists upon planet Earth, it is only a matter of time until we receive the fruits of our evil. Eventually, we as a civilization will fail, and quite spectacularly so, to be replaced by the rule of more humble and devout nations.
The patriot within me hopes that my diagnosis of America is wrong. It is my hope that there is still modesty and goodness sequestered somewhere within my weary people's inner souls. But I cannot deny that the prognosis looks quite dim. As Jesus of Nazareth would say: "Their lips praise heaven, but their hearts are far from it."
But please, dear reader, continue to ask this very same question of yourselves, as well as of one another. It is not a subject that can be visited too many times; particularly not during the current age we live in.
