The Joker

President Donald Trump is not the problem with American politics. It may seem surprising to hear a person say this, but if the reader bears with me, I will explain.

To begin with, I'm not alleging that our current President is even a halfway decent human being. He isn't. Day after day he has proven the depths of his depravity, and it should be clear by now that the abysmal immorality he trafficks in is truly bottomless.

But how many people out there are as bad if not worse than Mr Trump? In the end, such people are conducting themselves in the only way they know how. Telling them to be good people is like telling a fish to climb a tree. They quite simply are not capable of it.

Which brings me to my primary point: that it is not the wicked who are to blame, but rather, the system that both crowns and empowers them. And it has happened time and again across the entire world, including in the United States of America.

I have no doubt that this will get me in trouble, but America, you are to blame. President Trump could perish tomorrow, and we the American people would simply elect some other unhinged, vacuous jester to fill his shoes.

As I said, our country by no means monopolizes this problem. It can be found in virtually every corner and crevice of Planet Earth. But as an American, chastising my own country is the most sensible course of action I can take, as I have very little control over what transpires in far flung countries like Russia and China half a world away.

Until we address this problem in any meaningful way, we will keep electing horrible people to the highest office in the land, and we will keep revisiting this wretched place we as a people now find ourselves in. And I know not what the solution is; only that we must find it with great haste, as if the very soul of our nation depends on it, because it kind of does.
